ASCENSION PARISH (FOX44) — Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies received a report of a residential burglary in progress on Fitzgerald Drive in Ascension Trace Subdivision in Darrow on Thursday, June 12.
Dispatch maintained contact with the caller who reported that one suspect dropped off a second suspect, who was armed with a handgun. The first suspect was driving a blue truck that had a retail store bag with long guns in it, according to Chief Tony Bacala.
Upon deputies’ arrival, one suspect was removing a dirt bike from a residence on Fitzgerald Drive. Officers chased the suspect a short distance before apprehending him.
Deputies then patrolled the area and observed a blue Nissan truck in a driveway on Hemingway Drive. Two teenagers were standing in the yard.
When deputies attempted to make contact with the two teens, they ran into the house.
A short while later, deputies heard movement in the attic of the residence and noticed a hole in the ceiling of the kitchen area, where someone had stepped through the attic flooring.
Deputies located Steven Joseph, 19, and also found a bag, long guns, and a blue book bag in the attic.
Detectives arrived on scene and continued to search. They found stolen weapons that included bolt-action rifles and two assault rifles, as well as other items stolen from the victim’s residence.
In addition to the residential burglary, both suspects were charged for a shed burglary that occurred in the same subdivision on June 10, where two dirt bikes were stolen. Those bikes have not yet been recovered.
Steven Joseph, 19, of Darrow, was arrested on June 12 and charged with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, illegal carrying of weapons, criminal trespassing, damage to property, theft of firearms, simple burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, and resisting an officer.
Brannon Ellis, 18, of Darrow, was arrested on June 12 and charged with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, illegal carrying of weapons, criminal trespassing, damage to property, theft of firearms, simple burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, and resisting an officer.
Both were booked into the Ascension Parish Jail. No bond has been set yet.
