Baton Rouge tax preparer convicted in fraudulent scheme
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Maletica V. Ferguson, 37, of Geismar, LA, pled guilty on July 16, to aiding and assisting in the preparation of false tax returns, says United States Attorney Walt Green.
Ferguson faces up to three years in prison and a maximum fine of $527,538.
Evidence showed that Ferguson, who operated The Best Tax Service (BTS) in Baton Rouge, prepared and submitted 26 false tax returns to the IRS during for 2010 and 2011.
Evidence showed that Ferguson misrepresented taxpayer income, falsely claimed credits and deductions, and used other means to get taxpayers significant refunds from the IRS.
This scheme reportedly caused a loss of $263,769 in U.S. tax dollars.
