Lafayette pet grooming business allegedly abused animals
LAFAYETTE (KADN) — Pampered Paws, a pet grooming business on Westmark Blvd. off on Johnston Street and an employee of the business have been issued misdemeanor summonses for animal abuse after a video of the alleged abuse went viral.
Nikki Meaux, sister of Pampered Paws employee Sheri Dugas, shot the video footage in November of 2013, and claims that she has been trying on numerous occasions but was unsuccessful in trying to report the abuse. Michelle Jeanmard, owner of Pampered Paws is claiming that the video that went viral on YouTube was doctored in an effort to destroy her business.
When we reached out to Sheri Dugas, an employee who allegedly abused the animals, for a statement she did tell us that "the emotional distress of the attacks from her family and threats of physical violence against us makes it not safe for us to do on-air interviews".
Nikki Meaux also released a full statement to KADN:
"These videos were shot by myself due solely for the purpose of my concern for the safety of the animals. In regards to the remarks made by the owner of this business that state this is in act of personal revenge they are completely false. I, as well as many others, have tried numerous times to stop these acts of abuse and were turned away with our concerns. Regardless of who is committing this heartbreaking crime, be it mother, sister, or a stranger down the street, it is wrong and must be stopped immediately to protect the safety of our pets who cannot speak for or defend themselves.
