Woman arrested for 294 counts of forgery, stole $250,000
CALCASIEU PARISH, LA — A Lake Charles woman has been arrested after stealing over $250,000 from her former employer.
On October 31, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call from the owner of a local business regarding an employee stealing from the company.
The owner said that after researching discrepancies in the company’s bank account, it was discovered between November 2010 and September 2013, Kristin D. Brady, 46, who worked as a bookkeeper for the company, forged the owner’s signature to cash over $250,000 worth of checks at a local bank.
During the investigation, CPSO detectives reviewed surveillance video from the local bank which captured Brady cashing the forged checks.
After further investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Brady, and on November 6, Brady was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 294 counts of Forgery and Theft over $1,500.
Her bond was set at $100,000.
