New Orleans memorial for Terrilynn Monette scheduled, scholarship fund established
NEW ORLEANS, LA (FOX44) — The New Orleans memorial service for Terrilynn Monette has been scheduled for Saturday, July 27 at 3:00 p.m. It will be held at the Franklin Avenue Church.
This is the second memorial to be held since Monette’s body was recovered in her vehicle at the bottom of Bayou St. John. The first service was held in California on Saturday, June 22.
Monette moved from California to Louisiana to work for the “teachNOLA” program, which sends educators to teach in impoverished areas of New Orleans. She went missing on March 2, 2013 after she went out to celebrate her recent nomination for “Teacher of the Year” in her district.
Because of her devotion to education, her family is honoring her memory with the creation of the Terrilynn Monette Scholarship Fund. It was created through the United Negro College Fund (UNCF).
The UNCF program administers funding for more than 400 programs. Over 60,000 students at over 900 colleges and universities have benefitted from similar scholarship programs.
If you would like to make a donation to the Terrilynn Monette Scholarship Fund, you can send your contribution to UNCF, 1100 Poydras Street Suite 1400, New Orleans, La 70163.
